Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce President Brett Peterson said it was not often that exceptional acts of customer service were recognised and the award would enable the community to highlight their positive experiences.

"The Service Excellence Award has been created to give customers an opportunity to draw public attention to individuals within the business community who have gone above and beyond for them.

"Mr Hampton for example was nominated by a customer who needed assistance with his groceries. Although extremely busy at the time on the floor, Mr Hampton pleasantly helped the customer with his time consuming enquiry to ensure that he was satisfied with his purchases. Mr Hampton was then sighted on several occasions leaving his floor duties to put customers waiting in line with minimal purchases through the registers. The customer felt this was very hands on - especially for a manager," Mr Peterson said.

Mr Hampton also received a dinner at the Red Earth proudly sponsored by Downer Engineering.
