The Mount Isa Mining Expo is celebrated as Eastern Australia's Premier Annual Mining Expo and the 2007 event is set to be bigger than ever.

Last year saw a number of new initiatives introduced including various networking opportunities, the Mining Manager's pre-Opening Function, Meet the Buyer sessions and exhibitor's studio sessions. Each of the initiatives was well supported and drew many key personnel from the mining industry. Attendees of the Mining Manager's function included Xstrata; Zinifex Century Mine; BHP Billiton Cannington Mine; Southern Cross Fertilisers as well as special guests Madame Liu Fei, Consul-General for the People's Republic of China, Hon. Tony McGrady, Member for Mount Isa and Hon. Wayne Swann, Federal Shadow Treasurer.

Planning for the 2007 Expo is now well underway and it is expected support of this year's General Manager's function and Meet the Buyer sessions will be even greater, with invitations being sent to all active mines in the region as well as the next generation miners Summit Resources, CopperCo, Matrix Metals and Universal Resources.

The 2007 Expo which is in its 13th year is expected to receive amplified numbers in attendance this year due to the rising competitive market, greater networking opportunities, the new venue at Buchanan Park and the first-class reputation of the Carpentaria Minerals Province Mining Expo.

Chamber of Commerce President, Mr David Glasson, believes the event will be one of the best in its history.

"It's gearing up to be a fantastic event." Mr Glasson said. "We're already getting so many enquiries already."

The 2007 Mount Isa Mining Expo is being held from Tuesday, 1st until Thursday, 3rd May with the Official Opening being held on Monday, 30th April.
