The Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce is again launching the Best Dressed Premises Awards in collaboration with the 2009 Isa Rodeo. From Monday 27th July to Friday 8th August, organisations are invited to dress their premises and staff according to this year's topical theme: 'Buck the Recession'. The awards are an integral part of the Isa Rodeo's atmosphere. They also provide an excellent opportunity for organisations to show their support and engage with the thousands of visitors annually attracted to the Mount Isa region by this iconic event.

This year's categories are as follows:

  • Grand Champion for ten employees and over
  • Grand Champion for nine employees and under
  • Best Window Display
  • Most Interactive Display
  • Schools/Non-profit/Community Organisations
  • North West Star People's Choice Award

The introduction of the North West Star People's Choice Award category is an initiative designed to the boost business participation throughout the town and to encourage all Mount Isans and visitors to get into the rodeo spirit. The awards, which usually run over Rodeo Festival Week, have been extended to include the week before allowing enough time for everyone to view the displays and vote. Voters will be in the running to win a Rodeo Package which includes tickets to the actual event.

Posters advertising this new category will be made available to participating organisations and voting coupons will be distributed through the North West Star the week beginning Monday 27th July. Judging will take place on Thursday 6th August.

Registration for the Best Dressed Premises Awards is currently open and the initial response has been extremely positive. A number of local organisations are already preparing their displays and staff costumes. Some 'Buck the Recession' theme interpretations include cash symbols, graphs, bucking bulls, broncos and other cowboy images. Download an application form or alternatively, they are available at the Chamber office.

For further information on the awards or to register your organisation's participation, please contact the Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce on 4743 9881.
